New Designs for 2014
                            Valentine Valet

A charming  tribute to your valentine or to the ones you love.

My dearest dear and blest devine
I've pictured here your heart on mine
A heart my dear I present to you
A heart that is sincere and true
But Cupid with his crewel dart
Has deeply pierced my tender heart
A heart that ne'er will incline to join
To any other heart but thine

The six-panel basket is stitched on lambswool 32-ct. linen, segments of the verse appear on each of the  panels complimented with a handsome Carolinian heart border around the base in Gloriana and Needlepoint, Inc. silks in raspberry, wine and pink.  The six panels are joined with a diagonal ladder stitch  and the lining is a sumptuous claret designer silk with raised detailing all attached to a six-sided base.

Yet another needle roll, but this time it is for the knitter!  After all, any kind of needle can help us fulfill our favorite creative adventure.  This colorful knitting needle roll features a traditional sampler with wooly sheep, a knitter's verse and a border on the outside panel.  The preassembled linen/fabric outer panel is a combination of a vibrant Tropical  Pink 28-ct. Cashel linen by Wichelt and a very high-end designer cotton stripe in pinks, greens, blues and yellow-golds.  There are 12 needle pockets and an accessories pocket in all.

Hannah Pope Putnam's Bag - Then and Now

Hannah Pope Putnam's beaded bag was created in th mid-1700's and worn to many social and military engagements as well as to her own wedding.  Hannah's father, General Israel Putnam, was an important military figure in the Revolutionary War, and she was the wife of Vermont Representative John Winchester Dana.  Hannah's beautiful bag, done entirely in jewel-tone beads features traditional floral motifs - roses and bluebells- on a deep blue-green beaded background.  The base of the bag is beaded in a cranberry geometric design giving substance to the design as a whole.

For today's application, this handsome design is reproduced in luscious silk jewel-tone fibers by Gloriana, J.L. Walsh and Needlepoint, Inc.  on an Amsterdam Blue 28 ct- Cashel linen to replicate the original.  However, today's lady will enjoy a slightly larger bag design adapted with a personalized back panel carrying the upper floral garland and geometric base motifs from front to back.  The finished bag size is 8 x 4 x 14 and includes a pocketed silk interior.

Marcia Brown
Marcia Brown - Founder
I am proud to provide the needle artist with a website of finishing services, needle art products, seminars, needlework finishing DVD's and exceptional needlework accessories.

Since founding the Binding Stitch in 1979, I have had both the opportunity and the pleasure to work with many talented and respected needlework designers and teachers and retailers in developing needlework finishing techniques, products and services of the highest standards. I have also had the privilege of sharing my knowledge and creative conceptualization with needlework students on the national needlework teaching circuits since 1990. Through my experience in the needle art industry, I am always on the lookout for new products and materials that will enhance the needle art experience and the presentation of each project.

In 2013, The Binding Stitch will focus on the release of a complete reference book of needlework finishing. In addition, we will be continuing  to bring our on-line classes to the market .  Look for our email promotion to be part of our online stitching groups.

Marcia will continue as a specialty needle art finishing service provider for needlework designers and teachers in the production of models, prototypes and teaching materials; in addition to the professional finishing services provided to the individual needle artist nationwide.

Marcia will also continue to teach and make available her finishing DVD's and books, new-line needlework products and accessories, along with offering specialty stitching seminars.

Please make this site one of your FAVORITES and visit it often, as it will show up-to-date information regarding our:

  • New Products
